Travels with myself—and someone else

With an upcoming long weekend in San Francisco (Thursday – Sunday) and my recent completion of part four of my six-part manuscript, I’ve taken a couple days off to read and mull over the last two parts.

I never think a story all the way through . . . writing organically lets me uncover the story as a reader does. As the story progresses, however, possible endings begin to appear and I eventually (perhaps, hesitantly) embrace the one that seems the most “organic” and begin to steer towards this conclusion (cognisant that until an ending is written it only exists as a possibility).

It comes as no surprise, then, that the past two days have seen my thoughts drifting towards a completely different ending than the one I’ve imagined for 18 months. Only echoes remain. . . . I’m intrigued enough to follow my characters down the road previously hidden.
